Dear anonnymous,

Thanks for your queries. To answer your questions:

Squats

Ensure that your knees are moving towards your toes as you sit back,
keeping your chest proud. Check that your knees line up with 2nd/3rd
toe. Make sure that when you sit down you keep your hips above your
knees. On returning to standing ensure knees do not lock, remain soft.

Deadlifts

Keep your knees slightly bent at start and maintaining that bend slide
your bar to the top of your knees. Imagine you are taking a bow, keep
spine long and try not to fold forward. Just tip from the hip. Then
slowly return back to the top keeping knees soft and shoulders above
hips.

Hope this info is helpful for you. If you are a Fitness First member, please see one of the Group-X coordinators for more assistance.

Dear anonymous,

Thanks for visiting.

It is recommended to do 3-4 BODYPUMP® classes per week. Preferably, give your muscles a day's rest in between classes.

The recent release of the squat track is a killer especially the ultimate bottom halfs! That's the best part of doing squats but is it bad for people with knee problem? My goal is to increase the load for my squats eventually but am afraid to bcoz of my knee. I'm currently using 11 kg on each side.

Dear anonymous,

People with knee problems are recommended to seek the advice of a medical professional before doing the class.

Generally if you are doing ok with 11kg, then just stick with it.

I love going for bodypump classes. Due to time constraints, this is the only groupX class I go for. Used to go for bodycombat as well, but gets too crowded to do kicks safely.

A couple of gripes for body pump. Can't the instructors educate the people in the class to place the board within safe distances from each other, rather than really close. Another really irritating and destructive habit is that they love to throw their bars down (especially those who load up too much and cannot handle it) on the wooden floor. I don't know how long before the floors and the bars will break.

Also, some instructors need to perfect their technique and cueing, people learn from them, they should at least get it right.

Hi,

When I first took up Bodypump I was under the impression that it was a class where I could build up my muscles. I talked to a few instructors but they told me that it was actually more for toning only. Is this true? Thanks.

Hi jentz,

Do look around the malls and seek the assistants' advice on what to buy to suit your body size.

Do take note that working out alone does requier a lot of discipline to keep going.

Good luck!

Hi,
My friend joined me for body pump yesterday, this was her 4th class and she carried 10kg for the squart track. She used to work out before carrying heavier weights however in yesterday's class she busted her back and now cant move. the pain was so severe that she had to get a jab.

I would like to know why this happened? should she attemp body pump again? Ws the weights she carried to much?
